The Bollywood film Dishoom will finally arrive in Abu Dhabi this weekend to shoot some of its most thrilling action scenes.
Star Varan Dhawan said that shooting in Abu Dhabi would begin on Friday, and the general manager of the Yas Viceroy Hotel confirmed that filming would start on that day at the venue, which overlooks the Formula One circuit on Yas Island.
“We have signed a deal and there will be three major scenes shot here,” says Andrew Humphries says. “It’s a huge production, and how these scenes fit into the overall movie, I’m not sure. Dishoom will be quite a production for Abu Dhabi, I think.”
The Abu Dhabi work was originally scheduled for October but was delayed when star John Abraham injured his knee while shooting Abhinay Deo’s Force 2 in Bulgaria. In the meantime, Abraham, Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez shot less physically demanding scenes in Mumbai.
“John’s knee is probably OK now,” a source close to Abraham told The National. “He had a top orthopedic surgeon operate on it in early October and underwent intense daily physiotherapy. He’s been walking on it unaided, and driving, since November 4, so it should be fine for shooting in Abu Dhabi.”
Although Abraham has been spared Dishoom’s fast-paced action scenes until now, co-star Dhawan has not.
His younger brother, Rohit Dhawan, is directing Dishoom has not been soft on his older sibling – he had him hang upside down for seven hours while filming one recent hair-raising sequence.
“It was an extremely difficult stunt,” a source close to Varun told Indian Express. “It affected his blood circulation, causing dizziness. Varun pulled off the scene really well.”
Varun Dhawan, who was recently in Dubai to promote the film Dilwale, said that Dishoom will be filming in the capital for a month and a half.
“I’m definitely looking forward to taking over Abu Dhabi and creating some chaos,” he said. “A lot of the movie is being made in Abu Dhabi. Me, John and Jacqueline will be there – there are a lot of important scenes we’re doing.”
Abraham will be coming to Abu Dhabi a little later than his co-stars as he will be at the Mumbai Marathon on Sunday.
“John has been brand ambassador for the Mumbai Marathon for 11 years so there is no way he can miss that”, said a secret source.
