The Crown Prince of Dubai, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, has been named as one of the “leading personalities” on social media platform Snapchat.
The channel has added verification emojis for celebrities and high-profile figures, such as Sheikh Hamdan.
The verification method is being called “Official Stories” by Snapchat and has been made available to only a few selected people so far.
Sheikh Hamdan is among a group of international leaders, celebrities and influencers who will have “Official Stories”, which the firm says will help users to discover leading global personalities.
The move is similar to the verification ticks on Twitter and Facebook, however, on Snapchat there will be an emoji next to the user’s name instead.
Sheikh Hamdan already has a strong following on social media networks, with almost 1.4 million followers on Facebook and more than 1.37 million on Twitter. He also has 2.8 million on Instagram.
Snapchat is a social media messaging application that allows users to share photos, videos, text and drawings.
The app is currently estimated to have more than 100 million active users every day, the majority of them among the young population.
According to the company, in May 2015, the app’s users were sending 2 billion photos and videos per day.
When a Snapchat member searches for a specific personality with an ‘Official Story’, they will see the person’s name at the top of the page under a new “Official Story” header.
An emoji to the far right will also identify the Official Story.
Celebrities such as Gigi Hidad and One Direction members already have been verified by Snapchat.
