An UAE bank is offering its clients the option of making transactions using Twitter.
Emirates Islamic Bank’s Social Banking option allows customers to make transactions by tweeting the bank.
Customers will be able make inquiries on their account balances, transaction history, and credit card accounts simply by sending a tweet.
In an effort to maintain privacy and confidentiality, the bank will only respond to customer queries via a direct message.
Faisal Aqil, Deputy CEO of Consumer Wealth Management at Emirates Islamic said: “The introduction of banking via Twitter is a first for the Islamic banking industry and reinforces our continued commitment to set new standards of innovation in Islamic finance.
“Banking via twitter is especially relevant given the UAE’s advanced social media and mobile phone penetration. With this new service, we are able to offer our growing customer base yet another quick and convenient method to access their banking requirement.”
Emirates Islamic’s Twitter banking service will be available to all of its saving and current account holders as well as credit card holders, through registration.
Ahmed Nawaz, a 24-year-old Pakistani expat, said the social media banking option would be a big time-saver.
He said: “I use Twitter a lot. I think I it will be quick and easy for me to make transactions with a simple Tweet. If they have a verified Twitter account they can send out information really fast, that’s what most customers demand.”
